Wood Drill Bits

Auger Bits are designed for boring holes in wood. They are available in several styles for various applications. Auger bits have the following six common design characteristics: The screw point, outlining spur, cutting edges, side lip cutter, flute, and shank. The screw point is at the tip of bit and it provides hole location and self feeds bit into wood. The outlining spur cuts outline of hole and helps bit stay straight in hole. The cutting edges act like horizontal cutter and chip out wood in the hole. The side lip cutters act like vertical cutters and shave the sides of hole. The flute or twist ejects the wood chips away from the cutter. The shank may be taper square, hexagon, or round depending upon what use is was designed for.
