Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is an organic compound with the formula OC(OCH3)2.It is a colourless, flammable liquid.
It is classified as a carbonate ester.This compound has found use as a methylating agent and more recently as a solvent that is exempt from classification as a volatile organic comound in the US.Dimethyl carbonate is often considered to be a green reagent.

It can be used into product polypropylene carbonate.In pharmaceutical and pesticide,
DMC can be used into produce ciprofloxacin and carbadox.
Also it is a indispensable raw material to produce lithium battery electrolyte.
Because of its excellent chemical and environmental property, recently DMC is acting as a good solvent for coating ,
paints , ink and adhesive substituting the benzene, xylene, ethyl Acetate, butyl Acetate, acetone, butanone.
It is an ideal substitute for toxic substances such as phosgene, dimethyl sulphate ,and methyl chloraformate.
