Literally meaning of Shippo came from Buddhist sutra which assumesthe colors of Shippo to seven heavenly treasures-gold, silver, pearl, emerald, agate, coral, and crystal. And ia was said to be thefirst purpose to express its gorgeousness and nobleness.
Through China and Korea, the art of cloisonne was finally broughtto Japan with the Buddhist sutra.
