- White amorphous powder, odorless, smell-less and nontoxic
- It is soluble in acid and ammonium salt solution, difficult to dissolve in water, and insoluble in alcohol, and can be changed into crystal by high-temperature burning above 1,000, and into dead-burned magnesium oxide or sintered magnesium oxide above 1,500
- When meeting with carbon dioxide in the air, it shall produce basic magnesium carbonate

- Heavy metal% = 0.004
- Use: used as anti-acid agent and laxatives in pharmaceutical industry; used for too much gastric acid and duodenal ulcer; and often used together with calcium carbonate, which easily causing abstraction
- Meanwhile it can be used as synthetic, intermediates and additives in other chemical industries
