Micro liposuctionrefers to the removal of small areas of fat through tiny tubes andvery small incisions. Cannulas used to remove the fat range from 1.5mm to 6 mm indiameter. In general, smaller cannulas are preferable to largerones for smaller areas (such as with micro liposuction), and formore refined contouring. Larger cannulas speed the surgery for thedoctor, but may put the patient at greater risk for rippling andlumpiness. Sometimes, a larger cannula will be used initially toremove the bulk of the fat, and then progressively smaller cannulasemployed for fine contouring and sculpting.
